When was the last time you laughed like a kid? Ours was yesterday trying out the Town Center CID’s brilliant undertaking of the Zagster Bike program. Oh what fun it is to ride….on a cruiser with a basket!
We picked up our bikes at the Town Center location (right across from the mall), but there are several pick up locations. Surprisingly, there were several bikes to choose from when we arrived at the station on a gorgeous sunny Sunday at 1 pm. The process is a cinch and Bluetooth technology makes it paperless and on-the-spot. You download the Zagster app on your phone, enter your contact info and the debit/credit card you wish to use then follow the steps to check out a bike. Be sure to look at the bikes before you choose, though I’m sure every effort is made to maintain them, the first one I chose had a flat tire. The first hour to rent a bike is free, after that the rate is $3 per hour for a maximum of up to $24. If you don’t want to pay to rent a bike, you can also bring your own and use it on the trail free of charge. Helmets are not provided. The bikes provided as part of the program are adult sized with adjustable seats, smaller children will need to bring their own. Insider info: If riding with smaller children, you may want to elect to stay on the trails that don’t involve riding beside major roads.
The ride has a beltline feel going behind industrial buildings, passing under the express way, going behind apartment complexes near the KSU stadium. The ride is peaceful, scenic, felt safe and you’ll pass many walkers, runners and dog walkers along the way.
All in all, we rode for 44 minutes and 44 seconds (not joking) and had an amazing time with the wind in our hair and breathing the fresh air. There are plans to eventually expand the trails as part of the Cobb Greenway Project connecting them to trails in Cherokee and Fulton Counties as well as to the Atlanta Beltline. For more info, see the program’s website. And check out our video below! And remember, if you have great video from something you’ve done around Kennesaw, we’d love to feature it!
